Right to live without fear

-->

This series of works are created as a reaction to the Nirbhaya Delhi gang rape case. It started of with Johny ML curatorial show called R.A.P.E. (Rare Acts of Political Engagement), where artists were given a platform to express agitation against social atrocities.

Gear Up, Video Art
In the case of recursive abuse of women, the government put its stance on asking women to behave themselves rather than making tough laws to punish the criminals. In the wake of dejection and disbelief, hypothetical concepts popped up, of creating future gadgets for women’s self defense. The direction was to boost the moral of people and make them entrepreneurial rather than expressing pain and sorrow.

Open Source Ideas For Young Entrepreneurs, Book Art
It depicts hypothetical gadgets in the video art, went along with a documentation of each gadget, the design approach that can be taken to make them and their functionality. These were put as compiled narrative drawings that suggested as a blue print for a catalogue of future devices ideas.

STRI 1.0 - Even she has safety bugs, Sculpture
It is a representation of geared up woman as transformer. The reason for STRI to fail is because the protective shield has safety bugs. It sarcastically mocks the society by saying that women walking on the road are venerable even if they are well shielded. It depicts the system that has completely failed to give women their right to live without fear.

New India Designscape

I was invited to do branding of an exhibition called New India Designscape on Indian Design as part of a series of exhibitions conceptualize by Silvana Annicchiarico, the director of Triennale Design Museum in Milan, to focus on New Far East Design to investigate and analyze its multifaceted scenery. Simona Romano curated this show in collaboration with Avnish Mehta.

The visualization of space is based on my sculpture called FRAGILE "Strings Attached”, depicting a state of under construction, change and progress. The urban growth and a state of dynamic flux of economic shift has brought in dramatic change where we see marriage between modern and old. The grid structure portrays this growth that is happening on top and inside each entity sometimes benefiting some while affecting others causing domino effect.

I expanded the idea of the sculpture for a larger exhibition space and thus the artistic expression got translated into designing a functional space for the display for the final exhibition. On the other hand, a painting named "On Credit" was used as a base for show branding -print material like Invite, Poster, Catalog, Banner and other graphic material.

Transforming State

The series of works created during The WhyNot Place art residency organized by Religare Arts, talk about sudden flux of Delhi’s growing economy and urban development during 2010 Commonwealth games.

FRAGILE ‘Strings Attached’, Sculpture
Change is inevitable as we progress into future. The urban growth and a state of economic shift have brought in dramatic but sporadic changes with marriage between modern and old. People who are part of these changes in the topology have been coping with it. Although it is beneficial, it has also caused hurdles in day-to-day life. The sculpture portrays the growth that is happening on top and inside each entity. Sometimes benefiting some while affecting others, causing domino effect.

As the deadline came closer there was progress, but people were getting trapped in this fast forward process of finishing the work before the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. In the video, nothing is happening in real time. Either we see things looping fast or frozen for moment in time, giving a picture of how clogged the scenario in Delhi was during its facelift.

These ideas further lead to a commissioned art installation project called New India Designscape for La Triennale di Milano in Italy for a show on Indian Design as part of series of exhibitions, focusing on New Far East Design to investigate its multifaceted scenery. The installation depicts a state of under construction, change and progress.

Remembering you

-->
Postal art is about sending small-scale art works through postal service. I have been collaborating on this project with some of my friends who are staying in different places. In these series of letters we decided to depict our old memories. In one of the letter with Stephanie Cailleau who is a textile designer and a visual artist currently residing in a small town named Die, Drome in France, we depicted our experiences about each other’s country.  I wanted to show her surrounded by different animals because I remembered Stephanie getting really fascinated by animals walking on streets of Ahmedabad.

Roti Kapda aur Makan

This is a set of three art works created for "Roti Kapda aur Makan" curated by Anubhav Nath at Ojas Art in New Delhi.

As a nation, we are growing at a rapid pace. Although our roots are very strong, the new acceptance of global direction has been sporadic, based on the exposure and economic conditions. This triggers certain imbalances with in the society on the whole, that trickles down to each entity or vis versa. Filling in the blanks of these issues needs to be initiated from within each individual or else the dilemma can expand. As an artist and filmmaker my focus has always been to observe different walks of life and document them through various visual means.

'Size Zero'
A mother cannot avoid daughter the concept of women being represented as icon of beauty that has been constantly fed to the society through various means. The use of underweight models has been feeding wrong signals to young girls who look up to them. Even if these ultra-thin models are financially sound, they still restrict themselves from eating what they really need to in order to be unrealistically thin. This making them suffer from anorexia that is synonymous to 'Size Zero'. Ironically, the mind set of beautification for girls starts at a very young age where they are handed over perfect looking dolls and are asked to pamper them.

'Marketing & Sales'
The Unique Selling Proposition of street vendors is to provide goods at strategic points in the urban society. With the pressure of day to day survival, these entities are able to club different departments of Marketing and Sales as one unite by sheer trial and error method of luring the passers by in few minutes. The print depicts 'A' trying to understand the psychology of  'B' in order to make a sale.

'Craving Bubbles'
The ongoing process of polymorphic state of mind where there is push and pull of never ending needs and desires is depicted as hyper nature of bubbles. This print shows entity 'B' not able to understand her own
